I also love Paris and agree with the deeper reading of the song. I will quibble about LH though, because I also love that song The song starts very narrative:
Met someone at a club and he kissed her
Turns out it was that guy you hooked up with ages ago"
I think Taylor is definitely thinking of a kiss on the lips. She's trying not to freak you out by saying on the forehead or cheek.
😄Even during COVID-19 invasion, my church insists we line up and kiss the statue of Jesus on the Crucifix. Have they never heard of cross contamination!? Remember, never kiss your hunny when her nose is runny. You may think it's funny but it's not
No, I didn't, but thanks, though"
Going further, I'm convinced the line "the kind under where a tree has grown" has a double euphemistic meaning, and no one can talk me out of it!
With this verse
No, I didn't see the news
'Cause we were somewhere else
In an alleyway, drinking champagne"
I just realized my apartment has a pretty good ceiling.. I mean...it’s not the best, but it’s up there, if I don't throw up a glass full of champagne, I can't have a completely peaceful sleep without a map drawn above my head.No gift for France👧
Personally, I find Paris a lot more relatable as a non-celeb because I'm not under scrutiny, no one's bringing up my history, gossip about me doesn't go viral, etc., but I still like LH for its moodier, darker take on that getting away from it all with your lover motif.
Like we were somewhere else
Like we were in Paris, oh
We were somewhere else"
This is the first year I’m not going on vacation to Paris because of Covid. Usually I don’t go because I can’t afford it.
