I Can Do It With a Broken Heart

I can do it with a broken heart
Speaking of this song, I Can Do It With a Broken Heart, I think you can hear it two ways.

  1. It's a heartbreaking song because it's disturbing to realize that someone can suffer so much and still feel compelled to sing.
  2. It's an anthem of resilience and a victory lap for someone who has been through deep pain, trauma and knows they can still hold on.
It depends on how you pose the problem or what mood you are in. Anyway, the repeated referent of several pros makes you think of someone in depression, even if they are celebrating their birthday

"I'm so depressed, I act like it's my birthday every day
I'm so obsessed with him but he avoids me like the plague
I cry a lot but I am so productive, it's an art
You know you're good when you can even do it
With a broken heart
I can hold my breath
I've been doing it since he left
I keep finding his things in drawers
Crucial evidence, I didn't imagine the whole thing
I'm sure I can pass this test (one, two, three, four)"

A safe but sometimes chilly way of recalling the past is to force open a crammed drawer. If you are searching for anything in particular you don't find it, but something falls out at the back that is often more interesting.

On the stage in London, it was Travis Kelce's role to prove that I Can Do It With a Broken Heart it is not something beyond human powers

But because we are in front of a real child, the solution seems to be found by always stirring up the shit, until something can be read like in a coffee cup

"'Cause I'm a real tough kid, I can handle my shit
They said, "Babe, you gotta fake it 'til you make it" and I did"

That's how you end up with a broken heart, but still capable of doing the most surprising things

"I cry a lot but I am so productive", it's an art
You know you're good when you can even do it
With a broken heart?"

I've actually seen a lot of mentions of feeling guilty for enjoying the end of her day. It's her job, she seems to love performing, and she has more agency than most to choose to work or not (not on a day to day basis but in general).

Pushing aside terrible things in your personal life to do your job is extremely difficult and probably something most people can relate to. I doubt she'll play it again in her set list but who knows? Taylor can be surprising. I Can Do It With a Broken Heart can only be a new challenge
